Ula Cafe is a hip, eco-friendly, community oriented cafe located at The Brewery in Jamaica Plain, MA. Ula prides itself on baking all of their goods fresh from scratch each morning. They have a robust vegan menu with options spanning their array of baked goods, breakfast, lunch and specialty drinks. My favorite sandwich is the vegan curried tofu, it's stuffed with green apples, raisins, scallions, cucumbers and sprouts. They also have a vegan chocolate sauce that you can request for your mocha. So delicious! Sustainability is a key priority at Ula, which is why they source their ingredients locally, and compost all of their food waste. Energy efficiency, water conservation and pollution prevention measures are also taken. Check out their sustainability page to learn more.
Meet Caesar! Owner, The Downbeat Cafe. The Downbeat Cafe is a hip, fresh coffee joint located in Echo Park on Alvarado. The cafe features live jazz every Wednesday night, and great coffee and food every day! Their coffee comes from Caffe Calabria located in San Diego, CA. Caffe Calabria features organic blends and places a big emphasis on community - recognizing that it takes many hands to make one cup of coffee. Most of the food at the cafe comes from Cole's Catering, a Los Angeles based caterer who sources produce from local farmers. Bagels come from Brooklyn Bagels and the pastries are fresh from Homeboy Cafe. Even better, all of the packaging and cups from The Downbeat Cafe are recyclable, and they use biodegradable silver wear. Recycling is done at the cafe and Caesar stated that they were currently looking into adding composting to their suite of sustainable practices. The short story is - visit.
